Dear Mom & Dad:
Your Xmas package, the second one, came the other day. The fruitcake & jelly was surely great – all the officers here had their share. Naturally there’s not a crumb of it left. Thanks too for sending the clip board & log. tables – they came at a very opportune time.
I also received packages from Esther, Dot, & Title Ins. Co. From Dot a book called Valley of Decision – looks good. From Esther & Elmer a box of Pabstette Cheese, some dates, & a fancy fig cake. Things to eat are surely welcome around here. I was certainly surprised when I got a package from the Title – it was a regular overseas gift box made up by some Co. in New York. Very nice. They also sent along the annual Xmas card signed by everyone in the office. This is the first year I’ve ever received a gift from them since “joining” the forces.
Did I tell you we were each issued a couple of cases of Budweiser beer – in the can? We keep 3 or 4 cans on ice, I mean in the reefer, all the time & does it taste great after a hike or a game of volleyball! My tent-mate is a beer drinker from way back, so he usually drinks up all his supply in a short time & then starts on mine.
We’ve been playing lots of bridge lately. By the way, we have already put a dent in that bridge pad you sent me. Sure is nice to use a regular score-pad instead of a hunk of toilet paper. I’m kidding we’re not that hard-up.
Certainly hope you got that Thanksgiving turkey from Strom’s. Can’t imagine a real celebration without one. Just between you & me though I’d eat “root-a-beggars” if I could only be home with you all on that day. Remember how you used to threaten me?
Say, Dad, what’s this talk I hear about you getting’ yourself all slicked up? What do you think this is Easter time? You’ve got your holidays slightly mixed. I sure would like to see you in that peach striped shirt – wow!
The weather is sticky as the deuce these days. Probably just the exact opposite of the weather you folks are enjoying at the moment.
Well I have no big news to divulge so I’ll say g’nite. Am feeling just fine & hope you both are too. Take care.
All my love, Dorance
