Dear Marion –

This’n’s going to be short cuz – well, eh gads, I just wrote you night before last. I’m not doing bad, eh?

Today the mail finally caught up to the fightin’ soldiers. I also got mine. And amongst them three very special perfumy ones from some gal back home. Was I both happy & surprised – and more happy than surprised.

I’m feelin’ pretty fresh tonight too Marion – just took a bahth out of ye old bucket. It’s fun – but tricky until you get the swing. No you don’t try to squeeze inside. Just tip it over on your head – what a sensation – what a life! Things that could only happen in the army.

Say are you acquainted with the “Count’s” Take the A Train? They’re playing it now on the radio. It’s one of my favorites. Now it’s And the Angels Sing by Goodman. Gosh, some of those old favorites certainly bring back wonderful memories. You say “music soothes the savage beast” – you’re not just a kiddin’. With the proper musical background I could be persuaded to do anything short of murder. I draw the line there.

That was a very nice picture of Lee & Micky. I was both amazed and tickled about the news of the expected young ‘un. That’s really swell – I’ll bet Lee’s a happy husband. Just think of it – twelve whole points too. Gee – nothing like that ever happens to me – what am I saying?!

We are strictly eating like kings now – steak for dinner & pork chops last night. Chicken last week, chicken. Hmm, you’ll never know if I’m stuttering or calling you pet names. N’I won’t tell.

Don’t worry ‘bout the hair getting too long, cuz I think I’ll keep it cropped down to about ½ inch. OK?

You know Marion, not that I want to go around telling people how to run their lives, cuz I sorta don’t know “where I’m heading” myself. But don’t you think you ought to think twice about this joining the Red Cross – especially overseas angle. I know it’s patriotic & all that, Marion, but it’s really no kind of a life for the likes of you. These GI’s over here, or should I say wolves, just don’t take “patriotism” for an answer. Think you know what I mean.

You’re about 4 short of my total point score, but, gee, that was a good guess. I’ve high hopes of acquiring 5 more to add to that, which will help considerably. A good friend of mine (and incidently my old battery cmdr.) Capt. Denny Healy is going home this week – he lives in St. Paul. He promised me he’d look you up. He’s no Don Juan but a swell egg & lots of fun. He likes good food & good drinks & has been known to dance.

Well I sorta raved on long enough for one night, Marion. I’ll turn off the “bed lamp” now and snuggle down into my nice fluffy, clean, cool – GI horse-blankets. G’nite. Be good.

My love, Dip

P.S. Clippings enclosed – enjoyed them.
